(Syndicated
News) Crafts and hobbies seem to change a little bit
with each generation. But one thing remains constant.
People love to keep snapshots and memorabilia of their
life experiences. No longer are those items hidden away
in boxes. Today people are putting such things to good
use. Scrapbooking has quickly taken the country by storm
and people are creating amazing displays of their memories.
According
to the Craft & Hobby Association (CHA), scrapbooking
was originally thought of as just a trend. Over the
years it has gained steadily in popularity and now they
report that it is one of the most popular craft activities
in the country. There is even a day set aside to celebrate
the hobby. This year National Scrapbooking Day falls
on Saturday May 6.
An
increasingly popular scrapbooking activity is attending
festivals, like the one being held April 1-2, 2006 at
Farmingdale State University in New York. From 10 a.m.
to 5 p.m. on those two days, attendees of all ages and
scrapbooking experience level will be able to celebrate
the art of scrapbooking.
"We
are very excited to host our first annual scrapbooking
and stamping festival," says Christine Cifelli,
event director at Starfish Junction Productions. "This
is going to be an event that scrapbooking enthusiasts
and those interested in learning the craft don't want
to miss. We will have a variety of activity and information
for scrapbookers of all skill levels."
Festivals
like this have become so popular because in one day
people get a chance to see so many products, ideas,
and preview all the latest trends in scrapbooking. There
is no better way to try new products, learn new techniques
and crop until you drop!
"The
festival will have over 20 breakout sessions on different
topics," explains Cifelli. "Beginners will
have a chance to see how it's done and seasoned scrapbookers
get a chance to see the latest trends and showcase their
talent."
Scheduled
breakout sessions that participants can attend include
those for Big Brothers Big Sisters, Red Hat Society
Members, Girl Scouts, and young scrapbookers. Special
themed sessions are also offered, such as those covering
lighthouses, Easter, and creating a Mother's Day album.
"This
is going to be a fun and educational weekend,"
says Cifelli, "all people need to do is grab their
scissors, boxes of pictures that have been piling up,
and get ready for a great time at the festival."
