LINDENHURST,
NY- September 2006 - September 21, 2006 –
Lindenhurst, NY - Millions of pounds of good, edible
food are thrown away each year by New York City
food businesses. At the same time, more than one
million people are hungry, including nearly 350,000
children and more than 140,000 senior citizens.
City Harvest is the link between those who have
so much and those who have too little.
This
October 27th and 28th, the Metropolitan Pavilion
will turn into an Italian “piazza” for
Festa Italiana. This high-end consumer show will
have it all; entertainment, music, wine, shopping
and plenty of food. Thousands will gather to spoil
themselves with fine Italian products and the best
part is, they’ll be doing it for a good cause.
Festa Italiana will be donating portions of the
events proceeds to raise money for the City Harvest
program.
This
year, City Harvest hopes to rescue 21 million pounds
of excess food from all segments of the food industry
- including restaurants, manufacturers, wholesalers,
greenmarkets, hotels, corporate cafeterias, grocery
stores and farms - and deliver it to more than 600
community food programs throughout the five boroughs.
Each week, City Harvest helps over 260,000 hungry
New Yorkers find their next meal.
Festa
Italiana will take place October 27-28, 2006 at
the Metropolitan Pavilion in Manhattan. Friday,
October 27 the event will start at noon and end
at 8pm. Saturday, October 28 the event will start
at 11am and end at 8pm. Tickets are $10 online and
$15 at the door. For more information on Festa Italiana
